The Intake Section serves the citizens of Franklin County and the City of Columbus by processing criminal misdemeanor complaints. If you believe you are the victim of a misdemeanor crime and would like to file a complaint, you must appear in person at the City Attorney’s Office, Prosecutor Division, located at 375 South High Street, 7th Floor, Columbus, Ohio 43215. If our office has jurisdiction, an Intake Officer will initiate a complaint, run background checks, conduct a formal interview, gather relevant evidence, and discuss viable alternatives with you. The Intake Section can also provide community resources and protection order referrals.

The Intake Section is open during the following hours:

Monday-Friday 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM
Saturday & Sunday CLOSED

The following types of criminal complaints are not handled by our office:

1. Complaints against individuals under the age of 18 at the time of the alleged incident. Go to the Juvenile Intake Section at 399 South Front Street, Columbus, OH 43215. They are open Monday – Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

2. Felony complaints – contact the law enforcement agency that handles the location where the alleged incident occurred. Felony matters are investigated by the police and prosecuted by the Franklin County Prosecutor’s Office.

3. Incidents that occurred outside of Franklin County unless the incident was within the Columbus city limits. If outside Franklin County and not in Columbus, contact the law enforcement agency that handles the location where the alleged incident occurred.

4. Complaints involving an alleged incident that occurred in any of the following jurisdictions: Bexley, Brice, Gahanna, Grove City, Groveport, Hilliard, Lithopolis, Minerva Park, New Albany, Reynoldsburg, Upper Arlington, and Whitehall. If the alleged incident occurred in one of these jurisdictions, please contact the law enforcement agency or City Attorney/Solicitor for that jurisdiction.
